This year, our calendar painting competition revolved around the colour red. An open theme, determined only by this primary colour. We asked you to take a journey and experience the power of what this colour can incite. “Work in a figurative way or create abstract works of art. Express yourself with the most powerful of all colours, extensively or as an accent in your artwork!” stated our call for entries. Over 900 artists from 38 countries have responded to this appeal by submitting more than 2,000 images. Many thanks to all participants!
From all submissions, 36 fantastic artworks made it onto our shortlist. These artworks were presented in a video.
The twelve winning artworks are now revealed. They can be seen in the gallery on our website. Click here. Congratulations to all winners!

Do you want to participate in the calendar painting competition next year? Much appreciated! Here are the general terms and conditions of participation. We will announce the theme for the art calendar 2020 in January.
The contest is open to all artists around the world. Five entries are allowed per person. Entries can be submitted until 30th June of the respective competition year exclusively via the upload portal on the website www.hahnemuehle.com.
The contest is open for works of art in all painting, drawing and traditional etching techniques that have been created on a paper by Hahnemühle or Lana. Each image must be suitable for reproduction for the calendar in at least 40 x 30 cm in landscape format. All eligible entries will be considered in the selection of the twelve motifs for the 2019 calendar. We reserve the right to request originals for the final selection.
By entering the competition, the entrant declares to be the author of the submitted artwork. They consent to the inclusion of the contributions in the calendar, and publication on our websites, in newsletters, on Hahnemühle pages in social networks and in publications of any kind in connection with the competition. Any other uses are permitted only with the separate consent of the author. The copyright of the author is displayed clearly.
The winners will be announced in fall of the respective competition’s year. Each of the twelve winners receive an exclusive creative package worth a total of €350, as well as 10 copies of the calendar. Current information on the competition can be found on www.hahnemuehle.com.
