We proudly present renowned Estonian portrait painter Aapo Pukk and his superbly printed art reproductions in our Hahnemühle FineArt Inkjet Leather Album. The artist and his album had been awarded ‘Best portfolio winner 2014’ by Portrait Society of America. We are honoured to share this news and feature a short Q & A as well as some nice images of Aapo Pukks portraits in a 12″ x 12″ album.
Q: In which technique do you paint your originals? A: I work with different mediums: watercolor, pencil, pastels, but mostly oil. Q: How did you get know about Hahnemühle paper for digital reproduced works of art? A: The printing was done by Kulbert AS company by my friend and student Eero Alev. He introduced me the option of using Hahnemühle Leather Album for making a portfolio. They used Epson Stylus Pro 3800 for printing. It`s a 17“ inkjet printer which uses 9 pigment inks, which is perfect machine for such kind of work. I did the layout and design for the portfolio. Q: Which Hahnemühle paper do you like most to match your painted originals when it comes to art reproduction? A: For my awarded portfolio I used Hahnemühle Photo Rag Duo 276gsm as I needed double-sided sheets and the matte paper is the best one to deliver the job. Portrait Society of America had its annual conference this year in Washington DC, US with over 750 attendees. The competition got almost 1700 entrees and 21 of them were finalists. My work “Maarika” got ‘Exceptional Merit Award’. My Hahnemühle Leather portfolio got ‘Best Portfolio Award’. Q: Which response did you get for your printed art reproductions? A: I have got many good reactions and compliments for my portfolio via e-mail, facebook and by person. At the conference there was a lady who went to see after the winners were announced to ask from the chairlady, how to do a great portfolio. The chairlady told her to go and see Aapos portfolio. So I met that lady and showed her my works. Thanks to Aapo Pukk. More on the artists on his website.
