In March 2014 the Shaw Nature Reserve in Saint Louis hosted a digital printing workshop at the Robert Bullivant Galleries in St. Louis, MO, and Hahnemühle USA was proud to be a part of it! Read on for more information and a great review video of the event.
The day was structured into three parts. The morning session with Robert Bullivant talked about the technical aspects of digital printing while explaining ICC profiles, color management and workflow. Robert was able to answer their questions and provided a presentation that brought clarity to the “how-to” and “why” questions of inkjet printing. Three large format Canon printers and Eizo monitors were available so the attendees had the opportunity to learn and be guided through the procedures and techniques visually.
The early afternoon session was presented by David Robert Farmerie explaining the overwhelming importance of paper and paper choices. David’s personal experiences and brilliant ability to captivate and motivate the audience was absolutely inspiring as well as informative. The highlight of the day came during the late afternoon finale, where each participant had the opportunity to have two of their own images professionally printed on their choice of Hahnemühle’s Digital FineArt Collection – the marketleading wide selection of different paper surface types.
In addition to the lectures and printing, participants were also given the ability to view and feel each of the Hahnemühle FineArt papers. To facilitate this, several large format Hahnemühle sample books, as well as loose prints, illustrating how each paper surface and base affects the emotional content of the image that is printed on it were available.
By the end of the day, participants were very reluctant to leave, and their excitement was uncontainable! Their eyes, by their own admission, had been opened wide to the possibilities of what digital printing can offer – and how Hahnemühle’s Digital FineArt papers play a significant role in achieving this. The importance and awareness of how “Paper makes a difference” was now made obviously clear.
A huge thank you to David Robert Farmerie, the Bullivant Gallery, the Shaw Nature Reserve and of course, to all the attendees!
