More than 435 years of tradition and innovations comes with an obligation and responsibility as well. The artist paper manufacturer Hahnemühle has supported various environmental projects for many years. The transformation to digitally printed packaging by solution provider Thimm – The High Pack Group is the next proof point in sustainable corporate actions.
As one of the world’s leading manufacturers of the finest artist papers, life science solutions and inventor of the Digital FineArt papers, Hahnemühle has always been focused on resource-saving production processes. Together with the packaging manufacturer Thimm, a sustainable printing and packaging solution has been developed for the worldwide distribution of the traditional artist papers as the first step of this transformation process. The packaging is printed using a digital printing process, which is a more environmentally friendly alternative. Digital printing eliminates the need for printing forms and metal plates. Changes in the packaging layout can be implemented quickly thanks to digital printing and even short and medium run lengths can be achieved without major packaging waste. The wide adhesive tape is no longer necessary and thus plastic is saved additionally. Instead, a narrow adhesive strip is used. “For us, the cooperation with Thimm is a long-term project to digitise the printing of our packaging, optimised for our large variety of packaging, products and designs. Thereby avoiding analogue printing related waste and energy. This is one of our next steps towards sustainability within the framework of our Green Rooster environmental initiative,” says Jan Wölfle, President and CEO of Hahnemühle FineArt Group.
Both companies of the paper and packaging industry want to continue their cooperation. “The filled shipping packages will be shipped to 120 countries around the world. In a further step, digitally printed product packaging for up to approx. 500 Hahnemühle products will follow”, Jan Wölfle continues.
