Made from hemp and cotton fibres, Hahnemühle Hemp paper continues to impress internationally with both its quality and versatility. It has already been selected for the official posters and limited edition art prints for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris and is now at the very heart of a unique project for the famous Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral. This project is a prestigious example of the combination of traditional craftsmanship and innovation in the field of fine arts.
A unique project for the new graphic identity of Notre-Dame de Paris
The Diocese of Paris commissioned the agency c-album to develop new signage for Notre-Dame de Paris, a place steeped in symbolism and history. The choice of Hahnemühle Hemp paper for this project testifies to the pursuit of quality and authenticity in every detail. The plant-based FineArt inkjet paper, with its composition of hemp, represents both the durability and the fineness required for a project of this magnitude.
An aesthetic inspired by the history of the cathedral
The graphic identity created for Notre-Dame Cathedral is deeply inspired by the history and architecture of the building. New graphic elements were developed in collaboration with the experts at the c-album agency:
- Customised typographies, inspired by the ancient letters and inscriptions of Notre-Dame.
- Ornaments and pictograms reminiscent of the monument’s Gothic motifs.
- A colour and lighting concept that evokes the unique atmosphere of this spiritual place.
These elements are designed to guide visitors while respecting the sanctity and grandeur of the building.
Monumental prints on Hahnemühle Hemp paper
To bring this concept to life, Le Poulpe Français, a printing company specialising in fine art, produced eight huge booklets, each with 16 pages measuring 1m x 1.5m. Each page of these booklets was printed with incredible delicacy on Hahnemühle Hemp paper, revealing even the finest details of the design. The quality of the end result shows the outstanding quality of the Hemp paper, which captures light and nuance with precision.
Hahnemühle is proud to discover this project at the reopening of the cathedral in December 2024 and to be involved in another exceptional art and heritage project with the finest papers.
