Studio of the Year 2025, Platinum Studio Certification and My Art Registry 2.0 Member
Q. Hello Kerry, congratulations on receiving Hahnemühle UK certified studio of the Year for 2025, please tell us a little bit about yourself and your studio
A.Thank you, we really appreciate the award and recognition. My background has always been in visual arts and technology. I’m a photographer with a keen interest in fine art, documentary and street photography. I founded Point101 in 2003 and we’ve evolved the business to better serve artists and galleries for print on demand. Our location and setup has been moulded by the feedback and requirements of our customers. We’re very happy to have the space and hardware to give our clients the highest quality giclee printing and digitisation products and services.
Q. You recently became a Platinum certified studio and a member of the MAR 2.0 programme, can you discuss the benefits of becoming a Hahnemühle certified studio.
A. Becoming a certified studio gives our customers the confidence that we can fulfil their orders to a consistent standard, using Hahnemühle’s high-quality media. Being familiar with the paper range and colour management processes means photographers and artists can rely on us, so they can concentrate on creating. With an in-depth knowledge of the Hahnemühle range we can advise on the right papers for each project.

A. We’re able to digitise artwork up to 2.5 meters by virtually any length. We can also scan old photo albums and loose photos as part of our preservation service. And we’ve recently introduced giclee prints on 60 inch wide media. This means we have the ability to offer solutions to a wide range of clients and industries. Each project is often bespoke in the equipment and processes we follow. We have a plethora of hardware to get the best results. From scanning negatives or textiles to printing on bamboo papers or improving detail using AI – we’re able to help from concept through to delivery.

Q. You have a unique online portal for image upload and fine art print. Tell us a little more about this and the service you offer to customers.
A. Our website is one of the most important parts of the customer journey. Being able to design and preview fine art prints in an intuitive and accurate way has always been at the forefront of our thinking. We’ve spent countless hours perfecting the experience and we’re always looking to add new features and products to our upload and preview system.
Point 101 Media Choices and Recommendations
Q. Many of your clients are prefer to choose Hahnemühle Digital Fine Art papers. Outline which are your clients most popular papers and your favorite choices for artists.
A. Photo Rag® 308 and German Etching are two popular papers and while they have very different textures and applications, they have a consistency in manufacturing quality that means they can be used for limited edition prints. One of my personal favourites is Photo Rag® Satin – the subtle sheen gives a matt like quality while still being a gloss based paper
Q. How do you help your clients choose the right paper for their work and how would you advise an artist or photographer printing their work for the first time?
A. The choice normally comes down to the type of image, the expectations of the client and how it is being displayed. We normally advise doing a few test strips once the choice has been narrowed down. Close up portraits may not work on more textured papers or lustre finishes might not display well under rudimentary lighting. For customers new to giclee printing there is a bit of trial and error which is normal and part the process.
