After the 2015 exhibition Picasso : at the studio, the art publishing house and gallery Cahiers d’Art welcomes the exhibition Picasso Redacted [After Picasso’s Guernica, 1937], a collection of new drawings by Robert Longo inspired by Picasso’s original masterpieces. The centerpiece is the giant art reproduction Guernica Redacted, edited by Cahiers d’Art and printed on Photo Rag Ultra Smooth 305g.
In Cahiers d’Art gallery Guernica Redacted [After Picasso’s Guernica, 1937] is standing like a monument. This large format art reproduction of an original charcoal drawing by Robert Longo measures 283 by 620cm and is limited to 3 pieces. It has been realised by Robert Longo on Hahnemühle Photo Rag® Ultra Smooth.
Huge charcoal black blocks are cutting the already parceled art from Picasso, giving space for interpretation. Longo explains “I thought about old films and their black and white lights, to prison’s bars or to the writing of a secrete correspondence.” According to the artist, it would be a meditation on the difference of meaning between ‘watch’ and ‘see’.
“When I was looking close to the artwork, I wanted to go through these giant black lines, to see if there were another world behind. I would have loved to discover Picasso himself giving birth to his Guernica” says Lâm-Gilles Gascuena, Customer Service, Marketing and Communication Manager at Hahnemühle France. “The black lines are so disturbing and the Photo Rag Ultra Smooth gives them even more deepness. Sad that the artwork is under glass because without the reflection onf the lights, the blacks would have been more intense. In any case, Guernica Redacted [After Picasso’s Guernica, 1937] is really a must see artwork!”.
The exhibition is also showing smaller drawings with charcoal from Robert Longo on Picasso’s pieces. You can see the exhibition until October 1st, 2016 at Cahiers d’Art, Paris.
