Hahnemühle has teamed up with Jenny_illustrations to design its new Round Watercolour Paper!
The round format takes artists out of their comfort zone, broadens their minds and makes creative hearts beat faster.
This box protects the 30 sheets of watercolour paper, painted or unpainted, from dust and damp. Its 100% cotton Expression watercolour paper is suitable for watercolour, gouache and acrylic painting. The colours stay on the surface and retain their brilliance, giving each creation a unique look. The masking tape and liquid can be used and removed easily without leaving any residue.
An ideal gift for the Christmas season. You’ll find all the information you need and your local stockist on our website or the product directly in our Online Shop.

The Artist
Jenny Illustrations ( Insta: @jenny_illustrations) is an artist with a passion for watercolours! She loves flowers, portraits, landscapes and abstract art. At the end of her parental leave in 2016, Jenny discovered Instagram and the whole artistic and creative inspiration that came from this network. She was truly amazed by the world of each artist. This discovery awakened her creative side.
What do you think of the 100% fine-grain cotton Expression paper in the Round Watercolour Paper box?
I use Expression paper very regularly because it’s soft to the touch and not very grainy, which makes it easy to draw on. It has the great advantage of being affordable without compromising on quality. That’s another reason why I like to introduce people to it at the workshops I run. With this paper, you can explore and observe the magic of mixing without feeling guilty.
What are your tips for using this paper?
Expression paper is versatile and easy to work with. Generally speaking, I always advise painting with more water rather than less, because you can paint in the wet for longer and see the lovely effects of watercolour. Its soft texture means that pigments can be removed and areas lightened very easily.
What do you think the round shape brings to your creations?
We’re used to square or rectangular formats, and I often think that a change of medium from time to time can awaken creativity. The round format is great for this, because it changes our perception of space because the corners disappear. It evokes a feeling of openness and liberation. The round format in a landscape calls memories and thoughts, and makes it easier to focus attention on a specific point. For example, a path disappearing into the distance will have more meaning to me in a round format than in a rectangular one.
Recently, I had fun painting a scarab on Round Watercolor Paper and I loved the result, because the round format perfectly highlighted the rounded shapes of my beetle. I liked it so much that I decided to start a big collection of insects on this same format, and I can’t wait to see them all hung up next to each other to admire the result.

You designed the box, are you happy with it?
I’m very happy to see the final result of the Round Watercolour Paper box design, because this flowerbed is evocative of my early watercolours. As I said earlier, the format evokes a memory, a thought, and so I´m completely immersed in the feeling I get when I look at this box.
You’ve worked on two illustration projects for Hahnemühle, what has that meant for you?
This is the second project I’ve worked on with Hahnemühle, and I’m always extremely honoured to see my creations appear on the equipment I love and use every day. Hahnemühle is very close to artists and never stops bringing them original, top-quality tools, so it’s even more gratifying for me to be able to work with them.
Thank you very much Jenny for answering our questions!
