With its imposing 49 x 69 centimetre format, UPON PAPER is set apart from your usual art magazine. Having been awarded with the red dot: grand prix 2012, the magazine perceives itself as an innovative platform for artists and creative people all over the world. The first issue focused on the topic ‘Los Angeles’, with ‘COLOR’ being the special topic of the recently published issue #2.
Photographers such as Peter Bailey and Wolfgang Tillmans have contributed perspectives and positions to the topic COLOR – and the same applies to performance artist and painter Hermann Nitsch, musician and artist Kim Gordon and author Julia Zange. The cover of the issue was created by Peter Saville and the centrefold by Nick Knight, who crosses the borders between art, fashion and pop culture. Other artists who contributed to UPON PAPER #02 COLOR are – inter alia – the likes of Walter Pfeiffer, Erwan Frotin, Michele Abeles, David Benjamin Sherry, Solange Brand and Steve Shapiro.
Many of the works were created especially for this issue. Elaborate production techniques, some of which were individually developed for UPON PAPER such as high-pigment and fluorescent colours, allow the feature topic of COLOR to be represented in a very special way. The outstanding quality turns UPON PAPER into every art lover’s object of great affection and a gift that will inspire by its size, extraordinary content and brilliant design.
UPON PAPER is bilingual, published twice a year in German/English. Both issues published to date can be ordered online at www.hahnemuehle.com and are available for €49.80 each.
