\n<\/span>In search of motifs for the product packaging and the sample book for the “Hahnem\u00fchle Photo”<\/a> line, we gave young talents the opportunity to present their works.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Gripping pictures are always in demand at Hahnem\u00fchle as we show w<\/span>ith them how perfectly motifs look printed.<\/span> \u201cWith \u2018EVA\/\/School of Photography\/\/Hamburg<\/a>\u2018 we have found the perfect partner to collaborate with for our idea,\u201d stated Hahnem\u00fchle product manager Andrea Sippel, and adds: \u201cWith their fresh presence, the works visualise the paper\u2019s credo – for ‘Everyday Printing'”.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Frank Becker, Project Manager and Lecturer at the EVA\/\/School of Photography\/\/ Hamburg, points out the importance of printed images for photographers: “Whether for picture reviews, for project presentations or in the final compilation of individual motifs and image series for a portfolio or an exhibition <\/span>– printed presentations on high-quality papers are essential components of craft and creative expression for our students. “<\/span><\/p>\n

\nThe picture shows the “modern Bramante spiral staircase” in the Vatican Museum, Rome.

\nEvery day several thousand people leave the museum via this spiral staircase. <\/span>Most of the time, the stairs are so crowded with visitors that you hardly notice them. <\/span>I needed a lot of patience to realize my idea of \u200b\u200bphotographing the staircase deserted.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nIt means a lot to see my pictures printed. <\/span>The special look of the printed photo remains more lasting in the memory and does not disappear as easily as a digital photo.

The picture was created in Siena and shows Stefania, a friend of mine.<\/p>\n

We got to know from a period of time we jointly spent in Rome and share our love for Italy.<\/p>\n

We were promenading in a small back road and it rather is a snapshot. I like the light and the mellow colours. I\u2019m fond of the portrait in its simple and consequently honest style.<\/p>\n

Where and how did you capture your motif for our new Hahnem\u00fchle Photo packacking?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

On the right side of the new packaging is an elk crocus (crocus tommasinianus) in the middle of a crocus meadow. <\/span>This species, with a height of 7 – 17 cm, remains smaller and more delicate than the widespread vigorous garden crocus. <\/span>It flowers very early and is one of the first splashes of colour after the frost. <\/span>I took the pricture in our garden.<\/span><\/p>\n

What is the story told by your picture? <\/span><\/strong>What was the picture idea you had?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

My theme had been spring, as it wakes us with delicate shapes and bright colours from the winter lethargy. <\/span>It is still cold, we have to bend over and look very closely to participate in the awakening of nature. <\/span>Only in the bright midday sun the flowers open up and briefly clear the view of their rich yellow stamens.<\/span><\/p>\n

My picture shows Hamburg\u2019s television tower and its reflection in a pond in the \u2018Planten un Blomen Park\u2019. On the way back from a lightshow I had taken my camera to, the reflection of the television tower on the smooth surface of the pond attracted my attention. Combined with the nocturnal peace this made for a beautiful subject.<\/p>\n

A metropolis, such as Hamburg, has got countless loud and hectic places. But thanks to the parks it also features numerous green oases in the city centre that invite you to calm down. The nicely illuminated park is supposed to convey an inviting, quiet ambience that is supported by the night atmosphere. And all this is towered above by the big television tower as symbol for the city life.<\/p>\n

How important is it for you to see your pictures printed on Hahnem\u00fchle paper?<\/strong><\/p>\n

As I see it, a printed picture always has got a clearly higher valence than a fully digital one as we see masses of the latter every day. Therefore, holding a printed picture in your hands feels great every single time. And if the picture is printed on top-class paper, such as Hahnem\u00fchle papers, and can fully unfold its effect this is ‘the icing on the cake’.<\/p>\n

My motive is a homage to Andreas Feininger and shows the Petri Church in the center of Hamburg.<\/span> I took the picture with a long exposure of 30 sec. During the exposure, I moved the camera on the tripod and tried to paint the outlines of the church.<\/span> This created the double exposure impression.<\/span> To make the motif even more exciting, I created a double layer in Photoshop.<\/p>\n

In the footsteps of Andreas Feininger, I came across of an interesting picture by the photographer\u00b4s idol. I have tried to copy it in a night scene.<\/p>\n

The picture shows the inside of a big ceramic pot. This one was scumbled in blue from the outside. In the inside, the scumble ran down in tears, thus making for fantastic colour gradients. The picture was created within the framework of a photo rally of my photo school at a pottery.<\/p>\n

When I detected this very abstract subject I was right away reminded of aerial picture taking from high altitude. With this picture I wanted to simulate such an aerial picture, looking familiar on the one hand and alien on the other. The blending colour is supposed to look like a mix of water and lava.<\/p>\n
