\"UPON<\/a>On the occasion of the red dot awards ceremony on October 24, UPON PAPER magazine’s first issue won the coveted “red dot: grand prix” in the category Magazines & Daily Press – the highest possible distinction from one of the largest and best-known international design competitions. Of the 6,823 entries from 43 countries, only 15 participants received a grand prix from the jury, on which sat renowned experts from all over the world.<\/p>\n

Confessions of a jury: \u201eThe mere size of the format lends the UPON PAPER<\/a> magazine enormous power. This also enhances the content that impresses by a lavish production paired with a clear typographical layout.” Corinna R\u00f6sner, chief curator and deputy director of The International Design Museum Munich, who held the laudation: \u201eWe thought it\u201es simply great. \"Cover<\/a>UPON PAPER magazine is part of a concept based on three pillars: The magazine, a gallery space in Berlin, and a website. Together, they form an innovative platform for a dialogue with artists working in every art form, as well as photographers, designers, architects, and art lovers from around the world. The project, which is entirely independent in terms of its content and design, is an initiative of the long-esteemed paper manufacturer Hahnem\u00fchle FineArt. \u201eI\u201fm very happy about this great award for the UPON PAPER team,” said Michael Siekiera, co-publisher of the magazine and Managing Director of Hahnem\u00fchle.<\/p>\n

The second issue of UPON PAPER magazine, published on October 22, is dedicated entirely to the theme of COLOR. The eponymous group exhibition in Berlin runs till December 20. Among the artists featured in the magazine and the exhibition are Nick Knight, Peter Saville, David Bailey, Kim Gordon (Sonic Youth), Wolfgang Tillmans, Erwan Frotin, Michele Abeles, David Benjamin Sherry, Walter Pfeiffer, and Steve Shapiro.
