{"id":9577,"date":"2016-03-07T15:24:40","date_gmt":"2016-03-07T14:24:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.hahnemuehle.com\/?p=9577"},"modified":"2016-03-07T15:24:40","modified_gmt":"2016-03-07T14:24:40","slug":"calendarpaintingcontest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.hahnemuehle.com\/en\/calendarpaintingcontest\/","title":{"rendered":"From the Studio: Carlos Alberto G\u00f3is on his watercolour in Hahnem\u00fchle\u00b4s Art Calendar March 2016"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"gt-src-c\" class=\"g-unit\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<p><span id=\"result_box\" class=\"\" lang=\"en\">To paint my motive &#8220;Flower Window&#8221; on the subject of the Hahnem\u00fchle Calendar competition &#8216;Nature in the City&#8217;, I have chosen the water <\/span><span id=\"result_box\" class=\"\" lang=\"en\">colour technique to paint on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hahnemuehle.com\/en\/traditional-fineart\/hahnemuehle-artist-papers\/mould-made-watercolour\/p\/Product\/show\/16\/40.html\" target=\"_blank\">mould-made watercolor paper William Turner<\/a> with paints from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.schmincke.de\/startseite.html?L=1\" target=\"_blank\">Schmincke<\/a> and brushes of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.davinci-defet.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">da Vinci<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>I started with patches in overlapping midtones and was very impressed by the transparency achieved. The brush strokes were emphasised<\/p>\n<p>by the texture of the paper and gave the wall a grainy effect which underscores the rustic character.<\/p>\n<p>I have retained the white colour of the paper in the flowers and in the roof. That was crucial to give the image a shiny effect and to emphasise the colours that give life to the motif.<\/p>\n<p>In &#8220;Flower Window&#8221; entwined a branch of spring flowers the old weathered window. The beauty reflected in the window glass, which also mirrored the blue sky, forming a harmonious contrast to the sun&#8217;s rays.<\/p>\n<p>This design is my interpretation of &#8220;Nature in the City&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>By the way: The painting competition for the Hahnem\u00fchle Art Calendar 2017 is now open. It is themed &#8216;Animals&#8217;. We are looking for pets, wild creatures or fantasy animals from around the world in all painting techniques on a paper by Hahnem\u00fchle or Lana.
