Nearly 700 images by 350 artists from 29 countries were submitted to the international 2013 calendar competition with the subject ‘Music’. Watercolors, acrylic paintings, collages, drawings, pastels and linocut prints show instruments, musicians, concert scenes and dances. It was, as always, a difficult task for the jury to select just 12 monthly motifs out of the abundance of submissions. Now, they have been chosen and Hahnemühle is proud to present the victorious motifs in a ‘sound’ 2014 art calendar.
“We have taken up the suggestion of many fans who asked for a competition including all the classic creative techniques on our paper,” says Norbert Klinke, Director Marketing & Sales at Hahnemühle FineArt. For the first time, the eagerly anticipated annual Hahnemühle competition was open to all classic painting, drawing and printing techniques. The only condition: the works of art had to be created especially for this competition on a paper by Hahnemühle or Lana. And another first: the submission of images was carried out exclusively online.
The variety of the motifs inspired the Hahnemühle team and the jury: punchy brass, delicate variations of stringed instruments, colorful pastel compositions, abstract interpretations of concerts, romantic folklore and rock music scenes are the subjects of just a few of nearly 700 images submitted. Norbert Klinke says admiringly: “Thank you to all artists who have embraced this challenging subject. It shows us once again just how creative hobbyists and professionals can be with our papers.”
Prior to making the final selection, the jury short-listed 50 entrants for the final round. These motifs are showcased in a video on the Hahnemühle YouTube channel. Now, the secret of the 12 victorious motifs is released. The Art Calendar will be launched as an exclusive customer gift for partners and friends of Germany´s oldest artist paper manufactory in limited edition. To be featured in the annual art calendar is a sign of international recognition for artists from all over the world. The winners will get 10 copies of the calendar as well as a valuable package of art supplies including Hahnemühle paper and paints and brushes from Hahnemühle´s Premium Partner Schmincke Finest Artists’ colors and da Vinci Artist Brush factory.
Since the art calendar is not available for purchase, Hahnemühle is traditionally giving away a few copies. Make sure to join in on Hahnemühle´s blog at news.hahnemuehle.com and admire the 2014 motifs at www.hahnemuehle.com too.
Hahnemühle is looking forward to the next calendar competition themed “contrasts”. It will be officially announced at the beginning of next year.
