“I’m delighted to see the finished design of the new Hahnemühle Digital FineArt box for the glossy papers with my image alongside other photographs by award winning photographers” stated Dave Fieldhouse, a landscape photographer based in the West Midlands (UK). The self-taught photographer has a passion for breath taking scenery. Dave likes to share the mood of the moment by reproducing it through a photograph for others to enjoy as much as he did. “I would say that my style is similar to that of the classic landscape painters, like Constable, Turner and Gainsborough. Although I do sometimes mix things up with some long exposure or monochrome shots.” Dave´s style of photography perfectly fits Hahnemühle´s genuine artists papers as they are manufactured traditionally for hundreds of years for painters and are now refined for the digital era with a premium inkjet coating to print impressive archival prints of photo art on it. Dave places a hugh importance of the printing and perfect presentation of his landscape photography. “I print, cut mounts and make my own frames to make sure everything is exactly how I had intended it to look. I’m not a control freak, but I do like to ensure the final piece of artwork is something I would be happy to display on my own wall. Thats the thing with photography, taking the image is just the start of the process.”
In the heart of the three new front images on the box a stunning black and white portrait by Mario Marino superbly presents this genre of photography and stands for the award winning image quality Hahnemühle papers providing. Mario is a travel protrait photographer, Austrian born and based in Germany. He has been photographing peoples in their native lands since the year 2000. Marinos work is highly recognised, several times awarded, exhibited worldwide and sought-after at collectors. The featured portrait of an African native in the new box layout is iconic for his emphatic portraiture. “To me it´s essential to show the beauty and dignity of people. Empathy and walking are the keys to my work. A normal day is about walking 8 to 10 hours looking for people in their natural surrounding. I try to read people´s lives, the circumstances they live in. I´m fascinated by their cultural background and identity.” Marino´s portraits are presented in galleries and museums or bought by collectors as striking large-format prints. The photographer stated upon the visual and haptical importance of a high-end presentation: “I could feature the vast depth and crisp colours of my portraits in perfect prints only on papers by Hahnemühle. The inimitable feel of genuine art paper combines perfectly with the captivating imagery of mine.” For years now we at Hahnemühle are proud to have a strong relationship with Leica photographer Mario Marino.
An impressive architecture motif from Valencia, Spain, had been contributed by German photographer Werner Richner to the new box layout for all glossy papers in Hahnemühle´s Digital FineArt Collection. The portfolio of shiny inkjet papers is predestinated for photographs of genres like architecture. The fine art papers are made of alpha cellulose or cotton fibres with premium inkjet coating on top. They are a reminenscent of all professional darkroom papers. Hahnemühle is honoured to team up with Werner Richner as he is a pro since 1984 with great experience and a long list of publications and exhibtions in the fields of architecture and landscape photography. “In my pictures I am concerned with the spiritual heritage of humanity and I try to preserve the intensity of the experience in magical moments. It is the search for basic context and dependence of man by nature and culture. The intensity starts when the time is unimportant. In this sense, my images should be perceived timeless, detached from the zeitgeist and authenticity of an era.” Werner Richner loves to print big and beautifully on Hahnemühle papers for shows or portfolio presentations at publishers and collectors. “I print exclusively on Hahnemühle papers. All Photo Rag® grades like Photo Rag® Baryta from the glossy portfolio convinced me by their particularly smooth structure and their whiteness, which give my images an unmatched brilliance.”
And now it´s time to turn over the box! The backside of the new packaging is illustrated with a breath-taking panorama by Ken Duncan, Australia.
