The October motif of Hahnemühle’s art calendar 2016 has been contributed by Dr. Sabine Waldmann-Brun. The artwork from the painting contest was submitted under the motto “Nature in the City”. The artist tells us in our series “From the Studio” how her painting was made.
“Technique and paper: Watercolour, Gouache and coloured ink on Mould-made paper Hahnemühle matt, 300gsm. This painting exceptionally was not done in front of a real place, but in the mood to create a cityscape, that is colourful and natural. I often paint outside, but here I just wanted to be the architect. I started with the forms of the houses, sky and green parts and then added more and more details. I let the paintbrush dance and added colour here and there and splashed a bit to get the little spots. Finally I added the trees, forming the twigs by blowing into a straw in direction of the wet colour. And finally I painted the white lines.
By the way: I started my painting, while I was standing, because the movements are more relaxed and flowing naturally and then I sat down to add the details.”
